Composed between 1907 and 1908, the famous rhapsody represents one of Ravel´s first major works for orchestra. The first version of this piece was written for two piano 4-hands, - and quickly followed by a transcription for orchestra. The premiere of the Rapsodie was on march 5, 1908 by the Orchestra des Concerts Colonne. It comprises four parts (movements) and last around 15 minutes:
- Prélude a la nuit
- Malaguene
- Habanera
- Feria.
Professor Sadlo´s edition is recorded on CD 439 867-2 Deutsche Gramophone: Percussion: Peter Sadlo and Edgar Guggies / Piano: Marta Argerich and Nelson Friere.
