| Markus Leoson Markus Leoson was born 1970 in Linköping, Sweden. He demonstrated an early interest in, and aptitude for percussion. He was admitted to the Royal College of Music in Stockholm at the tender age of 15, and graduated four years later. In 1990 he was taken on as a percussionist with the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra, and became solo timpanist in 1993. Since 2008 he is professor at the FRANZ LISZT Hochschule für Musik Weimar, Germany.
Nowadays he is mainly a much sought-after solo percussionist, although he also works as a teacher, giving frequent master classes at music colleges and festivals. In addition to the Swedish soloist prize that he was awarded in 1995, he has won several international music competitions. He has performed as a soloist on radio and TV, as well as with many symphony orchestras throughout Europe. His first solo CD Percussion was released in 1996, and his two latest Colludo and Malletiana in 2006. Visit his website:http://markus.leoson.just.nu/
As a composer he has mainly written works for his own use. However the quality of his writing deserves a broader exposure, and Norsk Musikforlag A/S is now presenting his first three published works: |
